As hard as it is to feel like you are burdening your son by adding responsibilities, a guilt we single mothers often fall into, your son needs these responsibilities so he can learn how the world around him works, and what rewards and consequences the world has in store for you when it comes to responsibility.

Responsibility around the house is only one area that can help build his sense of self and increase his self-esteem. Help him help others by volunteering outside of the home. By doing so, he will feel good about himself, have a sense of accomplishment and help others, the benefits of which he will reap for years to come.
